Well, the first gawling news is that the state gov wants to expand residential housing to the east of Gawler. 820 Hectares of undulating rural land are now going to be smothered with roads, roofs and colorbond fences. Yucko. Not biodiversity-friendly, not greenhouse abatement likely, totally developer driven ie all pretty depressing. So much for any rural Greenbelt south of Gawler protecting our nice Country town. What good is a bit of restraint in urban sprawl down south if it all just gets spewed out to the north east? Hey, found out that the average new home generates 6 car movements a day so 10,000 new homes in Gawler East will cause 60,000 vehicle movements a day. Calton and Lyndoch Rds are going to be totally clogged. Also, Concordia’s going to be so chock a block McLeod’s are going to have to do some even more close-camera shots to block out rooftops from Drovers Runs scenes that look South across the North Para! Now that’s really challenging a town – not only messin’ with the lives of us natives but stuffing up the nation’s TV viewing pleasure.
